Treating Heart Arrhythmias With Ablation

Treating Heart Arrythmias with ablation is also known as RFA or Radiofrequency ablation.

What is RFA?

RFA is an effective invasive treatment for heart rhythm disturbances.

How to treat?

The treatment takes place using local anesthetic. The doctor inserts a number of thin catheters from the femoral vein to the heart. By examining the hearts electrical currents the doctor can examine what type of rhythm disturbance is involved, and then “customize” the treatment.

The treatment is performed by sending radio waves (localized heat treatment) into the diseased heart muscle tissue and thereby inhibit rapid heartbeat.

Most people will experience total succes and can expect to return to daily activities within a few days without needing any medications . Only a few percent will relapse and needs further treatment.
